Theirry Massin and his sister, Dominique, took over the family estate located in the Aube area in 1977, and how have 12 hectares located in Ville-sur-Arce. They believe in "lutte naturelle" and practice "culture raisonnee" (sustainable farming). Their soil is mainly limestone mixed with gravel. They work parcel by parcel, carefully, aerating the soil to get the best results. During harvest they practice stringent selection of the grapes: they pick the best and leave the rest! Each pressing is adapted to the particular lot that comes in. They favor low-pressure pressing and gravity tank filling, so as not to stress the must. Each parcel is vinified separately. The blending is a family affair. The bottles are left in cellars for a minimum of 3 years.

Considered pioneers in the grower champagne sector of the Côtes de Bar, the Massin family have been independent Champagne producers for over 30 years. Now managed by Thierry Massin and his sister Dominique, they took over the family business in 1977.

Their 12 hectares overlook the the village of Ville-Sur-Arce. Here, the soil is mainly limestone mixed with gravel, which is well suited for Pinot Noir. The Massins believe in lutte naturelle (sustainable farming) and practice culture raisonnée, which means that they work parcel by parcel, working as organically as possible.

During harvest they practice stringent selection of the grapes: they pick the best and leave the rest and each pressing is adapted to that particular lot. They favor low-pressure pressing and gravity tank filling, so as not to stress the must. Each parcel is vinified separately, and blending is a family affair.

No other winemaking region is as closely associated with celebration and romance. Brand-power here is also stronger than other regions, and consumers pay a premium for consistency and reliability. However a new wave of "grower" champagnes is introducing wines of distinction and character. Major varietals include Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.
