The grapes for this Grenache-based blend are sourced from 20 year old vines in the Rhone Valley, but the addition of 20% Marselan (a cross between Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache) requires that Le Dix assume the generic “Vin de France” designation. Much like a fine Cotes-du-Rhone, the wine exhibits dense, dark berry flavors with an earthy undertone. Try it with a rosemary lamb burger topped with goat cheese and a garlic aioli.
Joel SAUREL is the youngest of 7 children in a great family of winegrowers. He was raised amongst the scents of soil and an ancestral know-how that combines both tradition and new farming technologies.
Saurel is deeply attached to the land, believing that soil is the only true master of a wine, and has thus followed the principles of Integrated Farming production since 1996.
The soil is kept alive through careful ploughing and organic fertilizers; everything is sought to bring forth the natural qualities of the soil.
Since early 2009, the vineyard has respected the requirements and specifications of Organic Farming processes. Saint Damien should receive its Organic Agriculture certification in 2012.
