This is a classic Malbec brought to us by famed American sommelier turned winemaker, Andre Mack. Growth at elevation in Mendoza gives us a vibrant, supple wine that still pops with the robust fruit we enjoy from an Argentinian Malbec.
André Mack began to study wine in earnest while working at the Palm in San Antonio, Tx. He left there to open up Bohanan’s Restaurant as head sommelier. In 2003, at the age of 30 he competed and won the title of Best Young Sommelier in America, awarded by the Chaine des Rotisseurs, the first African American sommelier to do so. Gaining exposure, Thomas Keller offered Mack a position on the opening team of his New York restaurant, per se. He accepted and spent three years as head sommelier one of New York’s few four-star restaurants. His wine lists have also received recognition by Wine Spectator. Mack is now the president of his own wine company (Mouton Noir Wines), and is often featured in magazines like "Food & Wine", and "Black Enterprise".
The Agrelo and Lujan de Cuyo subregions sit just to the southwest of the city of Mendoza, in the foothills of the massive Andes Mountain range to the west. The soils are quite poor, which causes the roots of the vines to seek deep sources of nourishment, and subsequently improve the fruit. Agrelo, in particular, also benefits from a very cool climate, which slows/evens the ripening process and makes for excellent Chardonnay fruit.
