This year our Bambino was made with 81% Zinfandel, 9% Petite Sirah, 4% Alicante Bouchet, 6% Syrah, Grenache and Carignane.
Grapes were harvested early. Fermentations were relatively cool and long with indigenous yeast without any nutrient or water additions. Pressing occurred after 15 days on the skins. The wine was bottled after 20 months aging in neutral French oak barrels.

Established in 1865, this vineyard is now Old Hill Ranch winery, which was founded in 2000 by the four Bucklin siblings: Arden, Kate, Ted and Will. Will Bucklin has been a vintner for over 20 years, working in France, Australia, Sonoma, Mendocino and Oregon. Certified organic, the 24-acre vineyard is a dry-farmed Zinfandel field blend. Average yields of Old Hill rarely exceed one and a quarter tons per acre.
Nearly three-quarters the size of France, California accounts for almost 90 percent of entire American wine production. The production in California alone is one third larger than that of Australia. If California were a separate country, it would be the world's fourth-largest wine producer.
The state's viticultural history dates back to the 18th century when Spanish missionaries planted the first vineyards to produce wine. Today there are more than 1,200 wineries in the state, ranging from small boutique wineries to large corporations with distribution across the globe.
