Meet the CoolVines Wine Geek! He’ll guide you toward – or away from! – wines that have a unique flavor profile: intentionally oxidized wines, earthy, stinky wines, wines with a bit of fritz on the tongue. Look for him throughout our web site, and on the shelves in our stores, to point the way toward these geeky wines.
Bucklin's 2009 Petite Sirah is very dark purple in color and intense in aromas. The fruit component is jammy with blueberry and plum aromas. The spice tend towards anise and black pepper. The flavors are rich with plums, blueberries, and licorice. The tannins are very big and the wine will benefit from age! Old Hill Ranch Vineyard, 72 total case production, 78% Bambino Petite Sirah, 22% Mixed Blacks, 16 months in French Oak. Minimal manipulation.
Established in 1865, this vineyard is now Old Hill Ranch winery, which was founded in 2000 by the four Bucklin siblings: Arden, Kate, Ted and Will. Will Bucklin has been a vintner for over 20 years, working in France, Australia, Sonoma, Mendocino and Oregon. Certified organic, the 24-acre vineyard is a dry-farmed Zinfandel field blend. Average yields of Old Hill rarely exceed one and a quarter tons per acre.
Mid-Northern Sonoma's proximity to the coast, as well as the dense fogs that creep down hillsides, is the key to the region's favorable viticultural tendencies. Long a source for excellent Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, the area in and surrounding the Russian River Valley benefit with long, ideal growing seasons, allowing the perfect balance in ripening the fruit.
