Meet the CoolVines Wine Geek! He’ll guide you toward – or away from! – wines that have a unique flavor profile: intentionally oxidized wines, earthy, stinky wines, wines with a bit of fritz on the tongue. Look for him throughout our web site, and on the shelves in our stores, to point the way toward these geeky wines.
Fritz's riesling grows in a small, special part of Rheinhessen called the "Roter Hang," or "Red Hill," due to its characteristic red slate soil. An exceedingly food-friendly riesling, perfect with spicy foods.
Fritz's Riesling is named after Fritz Hasselbach who owns the Gunderloch estate together with his wife Agnes. On this estate they grow grapes on steep slopes with a regional micro-climate perfect for the production of excellent Riesling.
Rheinhessen is the German wine region that boasts the highest number of sunshine hours per year as well as the best conditions for grape growing with very low humidity, and it is here that many new grape varieties were bred in the early 1900s.
