This is a classic Jura wine with it's distinct oxidation and minerality. Aged in a combination of large and small oak barrels, the Savignin adds a nutty quality while the Chardonnay rounds out Savagnin's firm, almost chewy acidity and gives this wine its delicious, food friendly texture.
Jacques Puffeney's father was a vineyard worker who owned a mere speck of land just around the corner from Arbois. Jacques made his first wine at the age of 17 but, to earn a living, worked simultaneously as a "saleur de Comte" helping to make the fabled cheese of his region. Little by little he acquired vineyards and now the domaine consists of 7 1/2 hectares, all in the appellation of Arbois. His prowess in both the vineyards and the cave has earned him the nickname among his colleagues of "the Pope of Arbois".
Located between Burgundy and Switzerland, this cool climate wine region produces wines with some similarity to Burgundy and Swiss wine. Jura wines are distinctive and unusual wines, the most famous being vin jaune, which is made by a similar process to Sherry, developing under a flor-like strain of yeast. This is made from the local Savagnin grape variety. Other popular grapes in this region are the native varieties Poulsard, Trousseau, and world verity of Chardonnay.
