Co-owned French ex-pats Jean Pierre Thibaud and Jacques Louis Montalembert, Ruca Malen bottled its first vintage in 1999 and hasn’t slowed down since. They farm their 27 hectares of vineyards at the foot of the Andes Mountains naturally, and continually seek out ways to make the journey of the grape from vine to bottle true and earnest…in other words, they want the quality of their farming to shine through in every glass.
A delightfully fresh wine that is making its first appearance at CoolVines, from Ruca Malen’s value-oriented “Yauquen” line. Bright with snappy acidity, this is a lovely “lunch-wine”…low in alcohol and versatile. Yauquen is the “ritual sharing of a drink” according to local tradition.
The Agrelo and Luján de Cuyo subregions sit just to the southwest of the city of Mendoza, in the foothills of the massive Andes Mountain range to the west. The soils are quite poor, which causes the roots of the vines to seek deep sources of nourishment, and subsequently improve the fruit. Agrelo, in particular, also benefits from a very cool climate, which slows/evens the ripening process and makes for excellent Chardonnay fruit.
