Meet the CoolVines Wine Geek! He’ll guide you toward – or away from! – wines that have a unique flavor profile: intentionally oxidized wines, earthy, stinky wines, wines with a bit of fritz on the tongue. Look for him throughout our web site, and on the shelves in our stores, to point the way toward these geeky wines.
Made of Grachetto, Malvasia , Chardonnay, Sauvignon and Garganega, in approximately equal proportions, this "orange-wine" spends 3 weeks on the skins before resting another whole year on its lees in steel tanks. No sulfur is ever added to the wine. Stunningly aromatic - think tea, stone fruit, toffee and nuts. Only around 4500 bottles of this gorgeous, natural white are produced annually.
References in the archives of Montefalco document the presence of the Bea family in this region as early as 1500. This tiny estate is the classic Italian fattoria, producing wine, raising farm animals for trade and home consumption and working the land to produce olives, fruits and vegetables. To this day, the Bea family raises and produces much of what they consume on a daily basis. Paolo Bea, the senior member of the family at 72 years of age, is the guiding force behind the production of their intense and idiosyncratic wines.
The entire property encompasses 15 hectares: 5 of which are dedicated to the vineyards, 2 to olives, and the remainder to the fruits, vegetables and grains that are grown.
Umbria is a small, beautiful region in the center of Italy, rich in history and art, with a landscape of medieval hilltop villages, castles and monasteries. Unlike its Tuscan neighbor to the north, and despite its scenic beauty and cultural treasures, Umbria is a region largely untouched by large-scale tourism.
