I Greppi Greppicaia is crafted by winemaker Alessandro Landini, formerly of Fattoria Viticcio. The Bolgheri area on the Mediterranean coast of Tuscany is too hot for the traditional Italian varietal Sangiovese, but perfectly suited to Bordeaux varietals. The Bolgheri region produces wines of outstanding quality, which is not a small feat considering that the majority of the estate’s vineyards are only 4 or 5 years old.
Greppicaia is the estate’s flagship wine and is made mostly Merlot, with a touch of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Full-bodied, with rich, velvety tannins. There’s plenty of fruit, but this is refined and persistent on the palate. This wine possesses gorgeous depth and vibrancy in a fairly accessible style for this important Tuscan vintage.
Tuscany is the quintessential Italian wine region, a place where the Renaissance was born and the Church has reigned. Wine has found a place as one of the most humble of comforts with the people of Tuscany, on the table at every meal or served with a piece of bread as the meal itself. Though all made from the most famous of Tuscan grapes, Sangiovese, Tuscany is the birthplace of some of the most recognizable Italian wines: Chianti and Brunello di Montalcino. Italy's also a land of district microclimates, so while traditional red's feature the sangiovese grape, they can showcase different lands of structure and flavor characteristics.
