Native wine, Friulano was initially called Tocai Friulano. It tastes of crusty bread, almond and white and yellow fruit. It is wonderful with hams, fish and poultry. The vineyards of Friulano are housed in three large plots: the lands and hills of Ponca, the stony plain and the plot of Ronco Bressana. All the wine-growing areas are naturally vegetated and live happily with each neighboring woods. Grown here since ages, Friulano is our most popular grape, the ambassador of our territory. The wine has a straw yellow color with greenish hints and it exhibits the typical aroma of almond and flowers. It offers a dry and round taste of golden apple, pear and white peach.

When the Ermacora ancestors chose to plant their vineyards on the hilly land of Ipplis in 1922, they established the conditions for the inception of prestigious wines. Marlstone and sandstone soil of the Colli Orientali del Friuli, constituted of calcareous clay of Eocene origin, are not especially fertile, but are rich in minerals, resulting in exceptional viticulture. The Ermacora winery is a family management comprised of a rich heritage of culture and tradition, in respect of the land and of its timing. The wine is made by the Ermacora's in the most natural way, still harvesting by hand and following the traditional techniques for vinification. When the grapes enter the winery, they improve in personality on account of the particular care reserved for each variety.

The winery is run by the Ermacora brothers Dario and Luciano and their wives. The utmost expression of that wine, manual harvesting, traditional wine-making technique: these are the principles on which the Ermacora’s philosophy is based. Do little, in order to do better. Strengthening the wine personality vintage after vintage, the particular care that each one requires, from the vines to the wine-cellar. Even though innovative technology is available, the Ermacora’s make discrete use of it. Because grapes are delicate creatures, and their sons, the wines, must mature in serenity, in order to reveal all their qualities through taste and flavour.

The Colli Orientali del Friuli is the cooler half of the greater Friuli wine country, some which stretches into neighboring Slovenia. Farther inland, the Colli Orientali was once a rising seabed, and the marl and sandstone deposits here make excellent vineyard sites.
