Lightly sparkling 'frizzante' style perlwein - has ripe but light fruit on the palate with floral and mineral notes.
The eponymous grape that Dr. Hermann Müller, from Thurgau, Switzerland, created was long believed to be a cross of Reisling and Sylvaner. Through DNA profiling, however, it has now been identified as a cross of Reisling and Medeleine Royale (a.k.a Chasselas de Courtillier).
Reinhessen is Germany's largest wine region. It lies in a valley of gentle rolling hills. They call it the Tuscany of Germany. The soils are fertile and rich. Varied soils and the favorable climate make it possible to grow many grape varieties, traditional and new. Rheinhessen wines are often characterized as being soft, fragrant, medium-bodied easy-to-drink wines and mild in acidity.
Rheinhessen is the German wine region that boasts the highest number of sunshine hours per year as well as the best conditions for grape growing with very low humidity, and it is here that many new grape varieties were bred in the early 1900s.
