A classical white wine vinification of the Savatiano grape variety is carried out to produce this fine wine. The wine is distinguished by a blond color, fine fruity aromas and round palate. It is best savor with Mediterranean dishes and fish.
Athanassios Papaïoannou is so highly regarded in the wine industry in Greece, other Greek winemakers actually invoke the word "God" to describe him. He is adored for his deep understanding of the gifts of nature, his own natural poetic and philosophical gifts and, most importantly, his lifetime contributions to the development and respectability of the new Greek wine. This estate was founded by Athanassios's grandfather in 1876. The 45 hectares of vineyards that now comprise the property qualify it as one of the few truly world class estates in the country: all Papaioannou production comes from these vineyards.
The first reference to the wine tradition of the Peloponnese came from Homer who called it Ampeloessa, meaning "full of vines." Neither wars nor phylloxera were able to stop the production of wine here in one of the most historic wine regions of Greece. Spread throughout hillsides, plains and plateaus, the vineyards of the Peloponnese are known for their diversity and complexity.
