The Single Vineyard designated Cameron Abbey Ridge is their oldest vineyard and perhaps the most unique is this 22 acre gem located high in the Dundee Hills. The oldest vines were planted in 1976 and they consistently produce some of the best wines in the cellar. Very age worthy, the older vines have extremely deep roots to take advantage of moisture there during the dry, late summer months. Abbey Ridge is one of the highest vineyards in the Red Hills of Dundee and is generally harvested relatively late (mid-October for the Pinot Noir and mid to late October for the white varieties). This situation produces fruit with high natural acidity and wines with tremendous aging potential.

The Cameron winery says that the various wines that they produce can be divided into roughly two groups: those that they like and those that they don't like! All of the Pinot Noir and most of the Chardonnay are crafted using traditional Burgundian techniques which tend to generate wines reflecting the soil from whence they came. Cameron's choice of barrels for its wines is equally crucial to the final product. For Pinot noir, they buy their barrels from a wonderful cooper who lives in the village of St. Romain in Burgundy. His name is Claude Gillet and every year he visits the cellar, tastes the wines and makes recommendations for barrels. Both the red and white wines which receive their single-vineyard designation are extremely age-worthy.

Oregon is quickly gaining a solid reputation for producing some of the finest cold-weather varietals to be found in the world. While not uniform in climate by any stretch, the topography tends to create moderate, long growing seasons that favor Pinot Noir, Pinot Grigio, and some clones of Chardonnay.
