The Lallier Family has been in A˙ for over five generations and in 1996, James Lallier bought the winery of René Brun and started his own brand, and Champagne René James Lallier was born. The Zero Dosage is crafted from 100% Grand Cru grapes, of which 70% are Pinot Noir from A˙ and Verzenay and 30% are Chardonnay from Avize and Cramant. The Champagne is a blend of 60% of the house’s current vintage and 40% of their reserve wine. The “Zéro Dosage” refers to the estate’s stylistic choice to add absolutely no sugar, making this champagne bone-dry with fresh aroma’s and minerality, perfect as an aperitif.
In 1996 James Lallier, whose family has lived in the village of Ay for 5 generations, purchased an existing sparkling wine producer's premises, constructed a new building above its 18th century cellars, and started the Lallier brand.
In 2003 James retired and sold the enterprise to Francis Tribaut, who himself hails from an old Champagne family. Francis makes sure that Lallier champagnes continue to offer a top-notch tasting experience at an excellent price.
No other winemaking region is as closely associated with celebration and romance. Brand-power here is also stronger than other regions, and consumers pay a premium for consistency and reliability. However a new wave of "grower" champagnes is introducing wines of distinction and character. Major varietals include Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.
