The 2010 Flor del Paramo Prieto Picudo rose is crafted from the low-yielding and out of the limelight Prieto Picudo grape. This grape has been steadily uprooted in recent decades, the remaining cultivated area being less than 100 hectares.
Founded in time for the 2009 harvest by Pedro González Mittelbrun. During the early 2000s as Director of one of León’s most successful bodegas, Pedro was the primary force in the recuperation of León’s intensely colored and flavorful local variety, the Prieto Picudo. Having sourced and managed the acquisition of approximately 80% of all remaining old Prieto Picudo vineyards, his knowledge of the finest growths and growers is unsurpassed. Beginning with cleanly made young wines in a contract facility, the future calls for serious oak aged wines as well, produced in a new bodega to be completed in time for the 2010 harvest.
For the most part, Castilla y Leon's fame falls heavily on its red wine, though it also boasts a very important white wine region. In fact, maybe we could start right there. The region is called D.O. Rueda and it is located smack in the heart of Castilla y Leon (in the province of Valladolid).
