A fantastic value from one of the more dynamic, quality-oriented producers in the Rhone region.
Near the ancient city of Nimes, the legendary mistral winds of Provence -- "Cercius" in Latin -- sweep over the vineyards and out to the Mediterranean Sea. These cool the grapes and help to maintain it's liveliness-- further aided by vinification in concrete tanks.
A family of winemakers for four generations. Now in the hands of Michel Gassier the estate is intimately connected to land land. By striving to live in harmony with nature they achieve a personal equilibrium and give meaning to their wines. An organic estate their philosophy can best be summed up with this quote from Michal “We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children.” We are but a link in a chain, receiving and then transmitting, following the path of generations past. Solidarity, trust, commitment, and love nurture the human spirit to tackle even the most ambitious projects."
Costieres de Nimes is an Appellation d'Origine Controlee (AOC) for wines that are produced in an area between the ancient city of Nîmes and the western Rhone delta, in the French department of the Gard. Formerly part of the Languedoc region of France, as the wines more resemble those of the Rhone valley in character than of the Languedoc, it is now part of the Rhone wine area and administered by the Rhone Wine committee which has its headquarters in Avignon.
