This fresh, fruity wine is crafted from native Portugese varieties Aragones, Trincadiera, and Touriga Nacional. Cold fermentation of the completely de-stemmed fruit occurs, after which malolactic is allowed to happen spontaneously. The wine is aged in large oak barrels for six months prior to bottling.
Wine entrepreneur Hans Joerg Bohm came to Portugal's Alentejo region in 1984, with the aim of researching and producing wines made of native varieties. Teaming up with the University Evora, Bohm began delving into the genetics of Portugese grapes, in time creating his own company, Plansel Seleccionada, who oversaw the growth and distribution of these highly prized clones.
In the 1990's, Bohm's daughter Dorina, alongside husband Thomas Lindemann, joined the opperation and changed the name to Quinta da Plansel. They continue to farm the mostly granite soils of the Plansel vineyards in accordance with the research of years past, creating excellent wines of depth and character.
On Portugal's south-eastern border with Spain sits the wine region of Alentejo. Hot and flat, with sparse population and broad, sweeping estates. Though mostly given over to large, co-op growers, a number of important foreign interests have begun operations here in recent times.
