Chateau Carbonnieux is renowned for its white wine, a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. The 2007 is a precise, fresh and clean wine that just begs to be matched with seafood, soft cheeses, charcuterie, and fresh fruit.
Vines were planted at Chateau Carbonnieux as early as the 14th century when the estate was owned by Benedictine monks. During the 19th century the property began developing a strong reputation for high quality wine, but suffered a dramatic setback when the frost of 1956 destroyed most of the vineyard. The new owners, the Perrin family, began replanting in 1957 and the vineyard is now the largest among all the Graves Grand Cru Classe sites.
The undisputed king of France's wine regions, Bordeaux sits amidst and astride the rivers Dordogne and Garonne. Accounting for some 800 million bottles produced each year, Bordeaux has built its reputation on quality, with some of the world's most sought-after wines being crafted along the river banks. Bordeaux also creates a large amount of table wine, mostly sourced from the lesser of Bordeaux's 57 appellations. Bordeaux boasts over 10,000 winemakers. Known mostly for the red blends, Bordeaux also enjoys notoriety for its excellent sweet white wines, as well as several high-quality dry whites created mostly in the central regions between the two rivers.
