The Alhambra Reserva Malbec is made from a single vineyard that's at an altitude of 4000 ft. This extreme terroir yields a wine of wonderful concentration and purity of flavor, which the winemaker preserves by neither fining nor filtering the wine before bottling.
Originally belonging to a family of English origins, Finca Abril's vineyards were planted back in 1922. The age of the vines ensures reduced yields and concentrated flavors in the grapes, while minimalist winemaking in the cellar ensures that the wines stay true to their terroir. Finca Abril is located in "La Consulta" in Valle de Uco, which is situated in the mid-west of Mendoza.
The Agrelo and Lujan de Cuyo subregions sit just to the southwest of the city of Mendoza, in the foothills of the massive Andes Mountain range to the west. The soils are quite poor, which causes the roots of the vines to seek deep sources of nourishment, and subsequently improve the fruit. Agrelo, in particular, also benefits from a very cool climate, which slows/evens the ripening process and makes for excellent Chardonnay fruit.
