This classic, everyday Sonoma Chardonnay, is from father and son winemaking team of John and Peter Wellington. The grapes from the 2008 vintage come from historic vineyard sites in the Los Carneros and Hobart Nelson's Steep on the east side of the Sonoma Mountains. The two unique vineyard sites combined with supreme attention to detail, creates a wine of both substance and structure. John & Peter go through painstaking steps in evaluating the bounty of each vineyard site and the end result is a beautiful, full-bodied Chardonnay with intense flavors and classic California richness. The Wellington Chardonnay is one of the best value California Chardonnay's that CoolVines has found.

Wellington Vineyards is owned by the father and son team of John and Peter Wellington. John purchased the winery site in 1986. At the time, it consisted of 20 acres of old vines and a few decrepit old fruit and nut trees. Replanting of part of the old vineyard and orchard started in 1988. The winery was completed in time for the 1989 harvest. The estate vineyards consist of 24 different varietals planted over 21 acres, 8 of which are 85 to 117 years old. They grow approximately half the grapes they use and purchase the remainder, primarily from small, unique vineyards throughout Sonoma County.

Mid-Northern Sonoma's proximity to the coast, as well as the dense fogs that creep down hillsides, is the key to the region's favorable viticultural tendencies. Long a source for excellent Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, the area in and surrounding the Russian River Valley benefit with long, ideal growing seasons, allowing the perfect balance in ripening the fruit.
