100% Tempranillo from the Vinode la Tierra de Castilla region of La Mancha, some of the hottest (temperature wise) wine growing regions in the world. So much so that the Ercavio, made from entirely Tempranillo grapes is a powerful wine in more of a fruit forward modern style that has similarities to Garnacha than it does it's brother's in Rioja or Ribera del Duero. Plenty of deep notes with textured body complement this wine's richness, soft tannins and length. A great value wine from Spain.
Mas Que Vinos = 3 Winemakers & 3 Friends. Margarita Madrigal, Gonzalo Rodriguez, and Alexandra Schmedes met in 1998 in Rioja and began a “flying winemaker” consultant firm, taking them to projects across Spain. They were drawn to Gonzalo’s home town of Dosbarrios where they saw great potential in the vineyards and decided to launch their own project, Ercavio, named for an old Roman settlement. They renovated an old family winery (from 1851) with typical tinajas, large clay wine vats: the traditional and antique method for fermenting in the region. The continental climate is especially suited to growing grapes with cold, dry winters and hot summers, tempered by high altitude cooling.

While drinkable, this wine has a deep cloying note that pervades the experience in what I feel is a negative way. Perhaps it's the Tempranillo grape which is 100% of the product. Not sure. I just don't happen to like that flavor at all.
