The Esprit de Flore is an everyday, approachable and delicious traditional style Malbec from the historic Cahors region of Southwest France. While the common perception is that Malbec is native to Argentina (the en vouge South American wine), however Malbec is actually native to France and was brought to Argentina almost 150 years ago. In the 19th Century, Malbec was king, and the Baldes Estate of Clos Triguendina, meaning "longing to dine," was first planted in 1830. Award winning winemaker Jean-Luc Baldes is now the eight generation to tend the vines at his families estate, and since taking over the historic vineyards in 1990, has received numerous accolades including several winemaker of the year and best estate awards for Southwest France. The Esprit de Flore 2009 is a full-bodied blend of 90% Malbec and 10% Merlot, plenty of fruit and tannins make it an excellent pairing for grilled meats.

Originally planted in 1830, the Baldes Estate of Clos Triguendina has been producing deeply concentrated Cahors style wines for over eight generations. Jean-Luc Baldes took over his family Domaine in 1990, has put this estate in the elite ranks of Cahors growers. Baldes' vineyard is located on the most beautiful second terrace of the Cahors wine region, within the commune of Puy-l'Evêque; he also holds vines on the limestone plateau of Floressas.

Cahors is the capital city of the Southwest French Arrondissement where they used to bring the wines to Bordeaux for export. This region is still fairly undiscovered wine country, as generations of Bordeaux merchants wrote off the wines of this area as awkward, large, tannic reds of little to no character; obviously this is far from the case, as the finer Cahors reds are as elegant, ageworthy, and enjoyable as their better known cousins from downriver.
