Husband and wife team Mike and Claire Allan have been crafting world class Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough, New Zealand for the past twenty years. Establishing Huia, named after unique song birds who made their home in the region and have since disappeared, is an example of their commitment to embrace appropriate, environmentally and economically sustainable wine grape production methods. Their Sauvignon Blanc comes from two of their Estate vineyards which are in the process of becoming certified organic. Their wine are hand crafted and authentically made, with trademark modern New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc characteristics of emphasizing the ripe fruit notes in the wine, with plenty of structure and balance. This wine is very bright and uplifting with a good dose of minerality from the sandy silts and stones of the Wairau river valley, and a nice long finish. This Sauvignon Blanc would pair very well with buttery type seafood dishes like pan seared scallops or shrimp scampi.

Established in 1996, Huia (pronounced "HOO-yah") Vineyards is owned and operated by Mike and Claire Allan, who were drawn to Marlborough by the intense flavors found in Marlborough's Sauvignon Blancs. Over the past fifteen years, the Allans have developed an enviable reputation in New Zealand, particularly for their sustainable and aromatic dry whites. Committed to the production of premium and classical Marlborough wines, Huia is focused on hand crafting unique wines that express the richness of Marlborough grapes from the vineyard through to the table. To ensure New Zealand stays clean and green for future generations, Huia has become a member of the New Zealand Sustainable Winegrowers. Both the winery and the vineyards have received the Sustainable Accreditation.

Surprising to many, the now famous wine region of Marlborough on the South Island of New Zealand didn't have a commercial vineyard until 1973. Now, Marlborough produces some of the best Sauvignon Blanc's and Pinot Noir's in the world, and is by far the most prestigious wine growing districts in the country. With almost 40% of the entire country's vineyards planted, the distinctive cool climates give the winemakers the capability of making wines with real elegance.
