This Zinfandel represents the very best efforts from two outstanding sites—the famed Black Sears Vineyard atop Howell Mountain where the high elevation environment produces complex wines defined by their remarkable concentration and gorgeous black fruit character, and the legendary Tofanelli Vineyard in the prime bench of Calistoga renowned for bringing forth wines with compelling red fruit aromatics and flavors, and wonderful balance. Through the diligent efforts of winemaker, Thomas Brown, and vineyard partners, Schrader Cellars is able to radically drop crop to concentrate yields and optimize hang-time on the clusters. The resulting wines are inky dark with voluminous fruit character, massive structure and lush, supple texture.

The Napa Valley is one of the most highly praised regions in the wine world, and has been ever since the mid-70's (if not the mid-60's for Robert Mondavi and like-minded pioneers) for the quality of its climate, and its seemingly inexhaustible supply of moderate, ideal growing seasons. A region full of climatologically diverse sub-regions, it is a winemaker's paradise, as they are able to harness the potential of so many diverse terroirs within such a relatively small area.
