The estate is named Hahnmühle after a water mill which produced flour in the Middle Ages. Since 1898 the estate has been used to make wine for the Linxweiler family, with this generation taking over operations in 1986. The entire winery still derives it's power from the old Hahnmühle, making the Linxweiler our first biodynamic producer to make wine by using water power! Certified organic for almost twenty-five years, their Estate covers fourteen hectacres of pristine vineyards in Nahe, Germany. This Sylvaner Trocken is a dry white wine, with the grapes picked later in the season (Spatlese) for better ripeness with lots of flavors and a feeling of terrior, the wines connection to the soil. Wonderfully drinkable on it's own, but would be an ideal accompaniment to seafood.
The wine estate Weingut Hahnmühle in the Nahe region of Germany is family run since 1986, with husband and wife winemaking team of Martina and Peter Linxweiler, controlling the operation. Since then, their focus has been on quality and organic wine. Regardless of the new trends, they are expanding wines that match the soil and climate of Alsenztals, producing wines full of character and terroir.
The Nahe is sandwiched between the much more famed Mosel and Rhein regions of Germany's southern wine country. A tributary of the Mosel, the Nahe river benefits by having many sub-tributaries of its own, thus resulting in lots of little slopes ideal for grape growing. Also making it ideal is the mix of soil types, from the softer Mosel to the more minerally Rhein, which gives the Nahe wines an unrivaled complexity. It is for this reason that many great young winemakers are flourishing here.
