100% Ciliegiolo; an indigenous grape rarely seen outside central Italy. Originally Ciliegiolo was a component of traditional Chianti but recently there has been interest in wines made exclusively from this varietal.
The Podere del Visciolo estate was originally entered in the land register with the name La Vigna or “the vineyard”, which it still
bears today. The estate belongs to the Rubegni family, who have farmed the Montalcino land for generations.
Their vineyards prosper within a marvellous territory, which has always produced exceptional red wines.
Four hectares of vineyard are reserved for various clones of carefully selected Sangiovese that enjoy excellent
exposure to the sun. The grapes yielded are of the highest quality and allow producing an exquisite Montalcino wines. Today, Adriano Rubegni and his wife Sonia follow the wine production personally and undertake the marketing of the products themselves
The walled medieval village of Montalcino clings to a rocky hilltop, an hour's drive south of Chianti Classico. This southern region of Tuscany is known for its warmer climate, producing wines that are bigger bodied, denser, and packed with a bit more punch. The warmth also provides winemakers more assurances that each year sangiovese grapes will indeed ripen and produce wines of nuance and complexity.
