Meet the CoolVines Wine Geek! He’ll guide you toward – or away from! – wines that have a unique flavor profile: intentionally oxidized wines, earthy, stinky wines, wines with a bit of fritz on the tongue. Look for him throughout our web site, and on the shelves in our stores, to point the way toward these geeky wines.
This winery has been in the Minges family for 6 generations. Nowadays Theo Minges and his daughter are focusing on organic practices and minimal sulphur use. Their elegant Riesling offers expressive fruit flavors with a touch of sweetness and refreshing finish. Very juicy!
Currently managed by Theo Minges, the winery has been in the Minges family for 6 generations and dates to the 16th century. Regine Minges, Theo’s daughter, helps farm the family’s 24 hectares with her father while working to complete her viticultural studies. In the southern part of the Palatinate, Minges’ diversity of soils includes loess, gravel, red sandstone and limestone. All of the riesling vines are Mosel clones planted on chalky, stony soil almost 40 years ago by Theo’s father. Minges farms with organic practices, and is in the process of transitioning to bio-dynamics; though he’s most interested in the energy in the life-cycle of bio-dynamic practices, he intends to achieve certification in the near future.
Teeming with young, experimental growers as well as charming old-world villages, the Pfalz region is perhaps Germany's most exciting. Beginning at Alsace's northern border, the Pfalz winds its way northward on the eastern hills of the Hardt Mountains. The climate allows the ripening of a host of varieties, including the notorious Cabernet Sauvignon, showing just how interesting the region could be to the individualistic minds that are drawn there.
