Mario Galiasso took over his father’s winery at the end of the 1980s, thoroughly modernising operations and replanting vineyards, in order to focus on producing wines of extraordinary quality from their land in La Morra. This goal was accomplished with the help of the careful direction and methods of oenologist Sergio Molino which are still followed today by current oenologist Luca Gagliasso, the son of Mario. Gagliasso now own more than 10 acres on which Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto and Chardonnay wines are produced.
From the Ciabot Rus vineyard in the commune of Novello in Alba. Ruby red in color, fruity on the nose with spice and a hint of oak. Powerful and full flavoured with elegant fruit, good acidity and smooth body. Refined in French oak barriques for around 12 months.
The Piedmontese tradition of fine wine production runs deep in the Gagliasso family. Sons learned from their fathers the way to craft elegant, complex wines from the soils of their estate in La Morra, and today Luca Gagliasso holds the reigns of this most excellent winery.
In the early 1980's the winery was completely modernized the winery to compliment their winemaking prowess, resulting in even higher quality production.
Piedmont is the most "Frenchified" of all Italian wine regions. The long valleys of the Alpine foothills lead to easier travel to France's southern coast and inland than to the rest of Italy. It is perhaps for this reason that the Piedmontese have long practiced the most refined wine traditions of any Italian region. Terroir-based wisdom trickled down from early French masters (monks, typically) to this area.
Known mostly for their reds (but producing some excellent whites,) from the early ripening Dolcetto grape to the lofty, deep reds of Barolo and Barbaresco crafted from the Nebbiolo grape, these wines are clearly crafted using centuries of terroir-based winemaking.

Very flavorful; not very tannic. You can easily drink it on its own, but it paired very well with rack of lamb. I really liked it.
