Lifelong friends and business partners Don Surh and Gary Luchtel create this Pinot Noir from two distinct vineyards in Sonoma Coast, California. It is an area renowned for vineyards that are influenced by wind and fog that slowly matures the fruit and maintain its vibrancy. Ripe but vibrant, this wine is where "Burgundy meets California" a combination of earthiness, spice and fruit.

Surh Luchtel wines are the result of collaboration between two long time friends Don Surh and Gary Luchtel. First as housemates in college in the Oakland hills in the late 70’s, they became friends over many a bottle and discovered that our wine interests were more than casual. They have been making wine together since 1992 with grapes obtained from various vineyards of Napa, Sonoma, Monterey and Mendocino counties. Over time their wines have evolved from rustic to refined and have tried to maintain their style with emphasis on intensity and complexity. For each varietal Suhr-Luchtel employs a combination of traditional winemaking practices along with new world techniques in order to fully express the vineyard, the vintage and the grape.

The Sonoma Coast AVA is an American Viticultural Area in Sonoma County, California, USA containing more than 500,000 acres, mostly along the coastline of the Pacific Ocean. It extends from San Pablo Bay to the border with Mendocino County. The appellation is known for its cool climate and high rainfall relative to other parts of Sonoma County. The area has such a broad range of microclimates that petitions are being made to the United States Department for the creation of sub-AVAs such as the proposed Fort Ross-Seaview AVA
