Momtazi Vineyards brings you this Pinot Noir with grapes picked from every block of their vineyard. The vines, cloned from Dijon and Pommard, grow in a variety of soils and elevations bringing you a wine with a glimpse into their "realm".
In 1997, Moe and Flora Momtazi purchased 532 acres of abandoned wheat farm just south of their home in McMinnville, Oregon. They saw its vast potential as a piece of land that had been free from chemicals for seven years.
Today they have over 250 acres of vines located in their unique niche in the foothills of Oregon's Coastal Range-- which separates them from valley weather influences. This micro-climate provides slightly warmer days and much cooler nights with less rain.
The vineyard has also held themselves to a strict form of land use. Unlike conventional farming, they do not mine the land, but nurture it and reap the rewards. There is a complete absence of chemical use throughout the property. Instead they grow a variety of plants and herbs that they make into compost teas to harness their beneficial properties. It is essentially a "from nature to nature" philosophy.
Oregon is quickly gaining a solid reputation for producing some of the finest cold-weather varietals to be found in the world. While not uniform in climate by any stretch, the topography tends to create moderate, long growing seasons that favor Pinot Noir, Pinot Grigio, and some clones of Chardonnay.
