This is a small production wine from the northern Marche region of Italy. The wine history here goes back a long ways. There's a story about a battle by the Matauro stream where the Roman army defeated and turned back a Carthaginian force led by Hannibal's brother Hasdrubal. As the legend has it, the Roman army's triumph was inspired by their copious consumption of Bianchello wine prior to the battle. This wine is grown in predominantly sandy soil with southeast exposure before fermenting and aging in stainless steel.
Located on rolling hillsides with a soil of tuff and sand, Claudio Morelli produces six different varietals of grapes on 20 hectares of land in addition to a vast orchard of 500 olive trees.
Modern technological equipment helps to control a careful pressing and fermentation of the grape before aging and bottling the wines for optimal drinkability.
Often getting short shrift here in the States, the Marche region on Italy's central-eastern coast produces some of the most drinkable, accessible wines in all of Italy. Be it the delightful Verdicchio grape, or the Rosso Conero & Piceno blends made from Montepulciano & Sangiovese, these wines are made for good food and good times.
