A traditional Southern Rhone blend of Grenache Blanc, Viognier, Clairette, Marsanne and Roussane, from an up and coming star Domaine Roger Perrin. While vineyards have existed on the Roger Perrin property between Orange and Chateauneuf since the beginning of the 1900's, estate bottling only began in 1969 when the Domaine was founded by Roger Perrin who took over after his father-in-law's retirement. Roger died unexpectedly during the harvest in 1986, and his son Luc, a teenager who had studied enology and done an apprenticeship at Beaucastel, took over the domaine. Luc Perrin has steadily increased the quality of the vineyards and his wines and is now widely recognized as a rising star in Chateauneuf du Pape. A mouthwatering wine perfect for dinner best describes this aromatic and well balanced wine. Would pair well with fish, seafoods and grilled white meats.
Vineyards have existed on the Roger Perrin property between Orange and Chateauneuf since the beginning of the 1900's. However, estate bottling only began in 1969 when the Domaine was founded by Roger who took over after his father-in-law's retirement.
Luc Perrin holdings include 43 hectares of vineyards, spread out over sixty-one plots, some adjacent to famed Chateau du Beaucastel. While some of the vines are more than 100 years old, the average age of the vines is 60 years old. 85% of the vines are over 20 years of age. With their balance, intensity and typicity their vineyards are undoubtably one of the best finds in the Southern Rhone. Named by famed wine writer Robert Parker as a rising star, the Domaine has set it's eye on cultivating world class wines to rival the bigger names of Chateauneuf-du-Pape in the near future.
While famous wine regions like Chateauneuf du Pape, Vacqueyras and Gigondas are fun to say, almost 75% of wine production in the Southern Rhone is labeled Cotes du Rhone, an expansive sets of vineyards to the south. Extremely reasonable in price, the region is best known for smaller producers making sensational wines. Different from their Nothern Rhone cousins of Hermitage and Cote Rotie, the vineyards in Cotes du Rhone are part of the sunny, herb scented, lavender strewn, olive growing Mediterranean. Brutally hot days are contrasted with the cold mistral winds blowing from the Alps down the Rhone Valley. These winds concentrate the sugar and acid in the grapes while cooling down the vines and protecting against humidity and mold. The end results are generally full bodied wines full of power and finesse.
