With only 150 cases produced, this wine was handcrafted from 80 year old vines with an "old-world" Italian tradition matched by a "new-world" Californian sensibility. You'll find rich flavors of black cherry and dark chocolate in this deep ruby wine.

Charter Oak wine is unfined and unfiltered. The grapes are fermented on natural yeast. The winemaker uses tools crafted by his grandfather to punch down the cap three times a day. He works the must into a foaming lather. Very few make wine quite this way.
After three to four weeks in the fermentation tank, it is time to separate the skin from the juice. This is all done by hand by utilizing the 100-year old basket press. The wine is then bucketed into barrels. This is certainly not the most efficient way of making wine but follows their grandfather's winemaking tradition. The wine is in the truest sense handcrafted.

The Napa Valley is one of the most highly praised regions in the wine world, and has been ever since the mid-70's (if not the mid-60's for Robert Mondavi and like-minded pioneers) for the quality of its climate, and its seemingly inexhaustible supply of moderate, ideal growing seasons. A region full of climatologically diverse sub-regions, it is a winemaker's paradise, as they are able to harness the potential of so many diverse terroirs within such a relatively small area.
