Meet the CoolVines Wine Geek! He’ll guide you toward – or away from! – wines that have a unique flavor profile: intentionally oxidized wines, earthy, stinky wines, wines with a bit of fritz on the tongue. Look for him throughout our web site, and on the shelves in our stores, to point the way toward these geeky wines.
The evolution of MAN, as the winemakers call it, started with a simple concept good quality, excellent value, and cool packaging. Not exactly an epiphany, but this truly is some of the best tasting South African Chenin Blanc for the price. Named after the winemakers/partners wives, Marie, Anette, and Nicky they figured they would score brownie points if it was in tribute to them. The Chenin is sourced throughout the Paarl region from un-irrigated, older bush-vines whose struggles into the ground allow for the wines bigger body and richness. Tons of aromas and acidity make this wine a versitile food pairing to go with most poultry, fish and salad dishes.
The wine region of Simonsberg-Paarl is located some 20 miles inland from South Africa’s False Bay, separated by the light and sandy soils of the Stellenbosch. Here the soils become heavier, beginning to mix with the granite from the mountains to the northwest. Moderate growing season, with long sunny days and cool nights provided by the proximity to the bay.
